The Minnesota Chapter of HFMA Has Spoken!

The FY 2013 HFMA Chapter Survey was completed during October and November 2012 and based on responses of regular chapter members not listed as chapter officers or directors that have been HFMA members since at least May 31, 2012.

It was a chapter goal to provide educational programs and materials and health care industry information and opportunities for the benefit of members. The chapter's target was an overall high satisfaction rating of 60% or greater, which is a 5% improvement over FY 2012 - obviously quite the stretch goal!

The results of the survey indicated an overall high satisfaction rating of 60.4%!!! This includes 20% of responding members that were "extremely satisfied."

In addition, the chapter increased satisfaction ratings in all 8 categories queried. These results are consistent with the chapter's trend of improving member satisfaction through improved programing and the commitment of chapter leaders and members to the health care industry. The following is an illustration of the chapter's satisfaction trend:

The chapter now plans to take the comments, recommendations, and findings and use those to continue to improve chapter content and member experience. Your comments have helped the chapter expand educational programs to include such things as webinars, rural health care events, the "New to Healthcare Finance" event, the combined MN HFMA / MN Society of CPA's Health Care Conference (which is CPE-eligible), etc. The chapter will continue to make a commitment to its members and appreciates the responses received. Thank you to all of the members for your participation and to the officers and directors for your time and efforts!

Welcome to the MN HFMA Chapter website! Thanks for seeking out the Chapter's website as we believe you will find this helpful and very informational. We have excellent volunteers who work very hard to keep the website current with events, news, and other Chapter matters.

Leadership Matters; is this just another slogan that some new HFMA Chair created or is this something we can resonate with? I would argue that this is something we can and should be adopting as Leadership really does matter. We in the healthcare field are in a very exciting time. We do not often have the opportunity like we do now to truly make a difference or experience such a fundamental change in the healthcare industry. Yes we are in a constant mode of change as our most industries; but what we have in front of us with the fundamental change from volume to value is truly exciting for us.

Some of us were fortunate to have lived through the implementation of DRG's back in the early 1980's but for many this will be the first significant change in healthcare delivery and reimbursement in our career. We as healthcare leaders need to stand up and lead our organizations into and through this changing time and truly take to heart that Leadership Matters!

The MN Chapter of HFMA will continue to develop a full range of educational offerings related to these changing times. I am very excited after attending the HFMA Leadership Training Conference and the Annual National Institute that we will be able to offer numerous educational opportunities and to expand our relationships with other healthcare organizations such as MMGMA, AAHAM, and now most recently the MN Society of CPAs. Of course we will continue to offer our annual meetings with the Autumn Institute, Winter Institute, Concordia Institute, CFO Conference, and our newest offering "New to Healthcare Financial Leadership".

We want to thank you for your continued support of HFMA and the MN Chapter. It is your Chapter's Board intention to continue to bring value for your membership. Once again this fall will be the annual member satisfaction survey that will be distributed out to you the HFMA members. We encourage you to complete the survey and hopefully you will be able to indicate in your responses that your needs are being met. If however you have suggestions and comments on how better to serve you and to meet your needs, please feel free to contact me or any board member. You can use the Chapter website to see a list of the Board of Directors and to contact them. Of course you can always contact me at fenskeb@rice.willmar.mn.us or 320-231-4009.

Thank you for your support of HFMA!
