Compliance Committee

COMPLIANCE COMMITTEE

 

Committee Purpose

Provide a forum for information sharing among healthcare individuals with

compliance responsibilities to include education and training.

 

Committee Objectives

A. Provide a vehicle for networking to enable information sharing

B. Review and discuss relevant proposed compliance related legislation, and

    comment formally as a committee of the Minnesota Chapter of HFMA.

C. Provide compliance link between healthcare financial and non-financial

    personnel

D. Bring in outside speakers to provide education and/or training on relevant

    compliance topics

 

Committee Membership

Committee membership will focus on the following audiences:

A. Current HFMA/Minnesota Members

B. Non-HFMA members within the Minnesota Chapter’s service area with a

     recommendation that individuals be allowed to participate for free the first

     year to determine Committee value

C. Specific focus will be on individuals with Compliance-related

     responsibilities as well as those impacted by compliance activity.

     Suggested job classifications include:

a. Compliance Officers

b. Finance/Business Office Staff

c. Coders

d. Billers

e. Directors of Nursing

f. Other audiences as appropriate based on current Committee

   meeting agenda (e.g. MDS Coordinator, Social Worker, HIM

   personnel)

 

Meeting Structure

Based on preliminary discussions the following points would form the basis for

Committee meeting structure:

A. Arrange bi-monthly meetings. Hold two of the meetings in conjunction

    with the Autumn and Winter Institutes. Appoint person to work with

    Institute committee chairs for topic development.

B. Schedule geographical rotation of meetings, i.e. preliminary analysis

    would suggest that meetings be moved (e.g. Northern and Southern

    Minnesota) to allow for rural communities to participate as well. This

    would be in partnership with the Rural Health Committee.

C. Develop core group of Committee membership to help facilitate initial

    meetings

D. Rotate hosting of meetings utilizing Committee membership

E. Encourage Committee membership involvement for agenda items,

    education/training where appropriate, etc.

F. Compliance program effectiveness
